This is a fantastic abstract St Ives oil on board painting by Shearer Armstrong entitled Lupini Quarry Libya and dated 1964. The work retains its original City of Bradford Art Gallery Cartwright memorial Hall label verso dated 1964. This label details the title. Shearer Armstrong (1894-1983) was an important artist in St Ives. She moved to Cornwall in 1921 and was a familiar member of the St Ives Society of Artists. She used to show widely at the RA and RSA as well as internationally. She was concerned with the Romanticisim of Cornwall which can be seen in this painting. This is a successful work and is significantly framed. It is in very good condition and measures 63cm x 88cm. This is a really great piece.
