This is a stunning Arts and Crafts carved oak and thick wrought iron coal purdonium. The action is most unusual, you use the handle on the front to pull down the main body which in turn pivots and opens up the lid which is linked to the handle. Very clever and simple at the same time. The quality of the metalwork and the carving is superb. We cannot attribute this piece to a specific maker. It measures 64cm tall and 40cm wide.
